Fortnite Season 10 Teasers: Zero Point Explosion, Drift Skin, The Visitor, Dusty Depot

Imagen
Season 10 of Fortnite is almost upon us. The next season of Epic's popular free-to-play battle royale game officially kicks off on all platforms this Thursday, August 1, and as per usual, we're getting some vague tastes of what to expect by way of teasers in the preceding days. These seem to hint at some kind of time warp theme for the new season, including possible map changes and new skins that could be available as part of the upcoming Battle Pass. The fourth and presumably final Season 10 teaser has been released, and it comes in the form of a brief video. It turns out attention back toward Loot Lake, where the so-called Zero Point orb has been hovering of late. The video suggests it will explode as part of the seasonal changeover, and while we don't see the effect of that, it seems safe to assume this will cause changes to the map. It might also explain the twist on the Drift skin referenced below. The third of these teasers again doesn't reve...

Hitman 3 Could Be Happening

Imagen
IO Interactive, the Danish developer responsible for the Hitman franchise, opened a new studio in January 2019 . This new studio was established to "strengthen IOI's commitment to [delivering] exceptional content to the Hitman franchise." It’s been around seven months since then, and it seems that commitment may manifest in a new Hitman title. In a documentary from NoClip , IOI talks about the challenges and triumphs of developing the Hitman games. Toward the end of the 40-minute video, host O'Dwyer said the team is "working on new Hitman content, and looking ahead to the third Hitman game,” indicating a third entry in the series could be on the table. He later added that the majority of IOI is "working on something secret, and rather excitingly, something new”—though this may not necissarily be Hitman 3. IOI CEO Hakan Abrak said when "the World of Assassination [is complete], it's gonna be one game with all the locations starti...

New Need For Speed Coming Soon, EA Confirms

Imagen
EA has confirmed it will release a new Need for Speed title soon. The publisher said in an investor call that it plans to launch the new game before the end of March 2020. "We'll be delivering many other new experiences to players throughout the remainder of this fiscal year," said EA CEO Andrew Wilson. "We'll take the wraps off our new Need for Speed game heading into Gamescom in a few weeks. "We [also] have plans for a Plants Vs. Zombies shooter title, coming to console and PC later this year." The most recent Need for Speed game, Payback , launched in 2017 to a mixed reception , including a 5/10 in GameSpot's review. The upcoming Plants Vs. Zombies shooter , expected to be Garden Warfare 3, was stealth announced just recently with the codename "Picnic." Not long before that, EA announced another mainline PvZ title. Plants Vs. Zombies 3 is currently in the pre-alpha testing phase, but a final release date has not been c...

Dragon Ball FighterZ New DLC Character Leaked By Nintendo UK

Imagen
It seems a new fighter may enter the Dragon Ball FighterZ ring. Rounding out the six-character FighterZ Pass 2 , a new leak suggests Janemba, the demon of pure evil, is the 2D fighter's latest DLC character. The leak comes via Nintendo UK , who posted a description of the character. That page has since been removed, but Google crawled the page and confirms that Janemba was mentioned on Nintendo's website. According to the description, Janemba "joins the fight from the Underworld," and the content is said to include "Janemba as a new playable character, five alternative colors for his outfit, a Janemba Lobby Avatar, and a Janemba Z Stamp." Though the Nintendo UK link leads to a blank screen, GameSpot sister site Comic Book gathered reaction tweets to the leak, one containing a picture of the description from the Nintendo UK page. Developer Arc System Works and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment have not confirmed the leak. Janemba, a demo...

XCOM Spiritual Successor Phoenix Point Has Been Delayed

Imagen
Snapshot Games has announced that Phoenix Point has been delayed. Instead of releasing on September 3, the XCOM-like strategy game is now scheduled to launch in December. "While the development team is working hard, and Phoenix Point is shaping up really well, we now know we're going to need more time to get it to meet our very high standards," Snapshot Games wrote in a backer update . "As you probably know, Snapshot has a commitment to keep crunch to a minimum--and that is a commitment we take very seriously." This is the third time Phoenix Point has been delayed; the game was first scheduled for 2018 before being pushed back to July 2019 and then again to September. In response to the delay, Snapshot Games is offering a reward to backers who have been patiently waiting. "We know this is a significant delay," the developer wrote. "The good news is that Backer Build 5 will be releasing on our original launch date, September ...

Destiny 2 Update Kicks Off Solstice Of Heroes 2019; Patch Notes Released

Imagen
The final major event of Year 2 of Destiny 2 is now live, as is a new update. Patch 2.5.2 is out now and coincides with the start of Solstice of Heroes 2019 , which features a limited-time mode and a variety of cosmetics (including sparrows, emotes, and ghosts, among other things). Here's what's new in the update itself and a look at the full patch notes. [ Update: Since the patch went live, Bungie has removed a new Eververse item from sale: the Solstice Key Fragment Magnet. This was meant to increase the drop rate of key fragments, which are part of the Solstice event, but it was not functioning correctly, so they're no longer for sale. Bungie says more details are to come; we don't yet know how or when players who purchased the magnets will be refunded, or if the item will be fixed before the end of the event.] While the update's release marks the start of a big event, the patch itself doesn't feature much in the way of significant new ...

PS4 Sales Below Sony's Expectations After PS5 Reveal

Imagen
Sony announced this week that PlayStation 4 shipments have climbed to a staggering 100 million units life-to-date , but it wasn't all good news. The 3.2 million PS4 systems that Sony shipped in the April-June quarter was "slightly below" the company's internal expectations. The reason for the downturn? Sony said it was "primarily" due to the company's announcement of its next-generation console, the PlayStation 5. Sony has yet to officially announce its next-generation console, but PlayStation architect Mark Cerny started talking about the console and some of its specs earlier this year . After that, Sony demonstrated the console's much-faster loading times during a business meeting. It's a historical trend in the games business that console sales of an older system drop off to a degree when a new console is revealed. The thinking is that people hold off on buying a console when they know a newer one is coming. That seems to be what...

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne - 9 Exciting Quality-of-Life Improvements

Imagen
Monster Hunter World’s upcoming Iceborne expansion brings some big changes and bigger monsters. But while cool new tools like the Clutch Claw have likely already caught your eye, there are tons of less flashy tweaks that will probably make seasoned hunters yell “YES FINALLY” with the same level of enthusiasm. We got to play through the first few hours of Iceborne last week, and while you can watch us take on three of its new subspecies monsters here , these little quality-of-life improvements really stuck out. There are surely plenty more, but here of nine of the most exciting tweaks we've seen saw so far - be sure to watch the video at the top of the page to see them in action! There's an In-Game Event Schedule Right out of the gate, when you go to get your Login Bonus you’ll notice two new buttons, one of which sends you to an in-game event schedule. It was empty in the work-in-progress build we were playing on, but this probably means you won’t have to ...

Madden NFL 20 Review

Imagen
With every new Madden comes a new set of upgrades and disappointments, but Madden NFL 20’s balance is a bit more favorable than usual. Among the new features are a couple of key changes that underscore the difference between a typical player and a true NFL superstar in meaningful and exciting ways, making the moment-to-moment gameplay as strong as it’s been since the switch to Xbox One and PlayStation 4. On the other hand, it leaves Franchise mode without significant new features and microtransactions continue to be an issue with Madden Ultimate Team. So EA’s ongoing quest to satisfy the entire spectrum of casual, competitive, and sim fans is only partially successful, though more so than usual. As we approach the end of the current console generation developers are learning to fully harness the real power of each system, and it shows in Madden 20. The new lighting system creates a softer, more natural look to the players and fans. Add that to the improved fluidity of the...

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Why Killstreaks Are the Right Move

Imagen
Announced in a lead-up to a full multiplayer premiere this Thursday, killstreaks are officially back in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare . I, for one, relish their return. It’s a controversial topic, one with supporters on either side defending the validity of playing an objective versus rewarding raw shooter skill. But killstreaks inherently speak to the spirit of the Call of Duty series: a fast-paced arena where personal performance is the primary metric to judge a player’s success. Scorestreaks, introduced in Black Ops II, rewarded players for completing objectives, destroying enemy equipment, and resupplying allies. Killstreaks, as the name would suggest, only rewarded you for getting kills. Playing the objective may be the law of the land in Battlefield but Call of Duty, to me, has always felt more like a vain expression of my own shooter skill than it has a game about teamwork... and that’s totally fine. In addition to its thematic relevance, killstreaks are a b...
